Their ancestors escaped poverty, and went to the US for a better life in the 19th century. Therefore, Lista have become entranced with American culture. Having renamed itself the American Lista, - the village’s biggest event is the yearly American festival. There we meet Norwegian Asbjørn, who lived the American dream in the 60s. And Kristy, who escaped her life in the US 40 years ago.

She grew up with an enormous number of legendary stories from his past that have formulated him into a kind of mythical figure, which was further exaggerated by grief and his death. Claudia looks into his participation and eventual shipwreck in the 1982 "Around the World Alone" sailing race. Aiming to unpick this glorified image and find the reality of the man.
