All the people in the Norwegian village of Lista, have one thing in common. Their ancestors escaped poverty, and went to the US for a better life in the 19th century. Lista have become entranced with American culture. Having renamed itself the American Lista, - the village’s biggest event is the yearly American festival. Is it at this event we meet Asbjørn, who lived the American dream in the 60s. And Kristy, who escaped her life in the US and move to Norway 40 years ago. Both are looking to find belonging in a foreign place.
